In order to create a kit addressing the footballers’ real needs and enabling them to play in optimal conditions, the Danish sports apparel brand has worked with the former captain of the women’s national football team, Khalida Popal. Popal stated: “I was consulted right from the inception of this kit’s design. I wanted something that reflected the strength of the Afghan people, and which at the same time incorporated our best traditions and heritage. I think this kit has succeeded in combining these two elements.”
For Hummel too, designing this kit went beyond the mere footballing dimension. “From the start, it was clear that this kit would have a major significance,” explained Paul Fitzgerald, Hummel’s designer. “I asked Khalida to think about something that reminded her of Afghanistan, and she talked about their mountains. That was my starting point. Ultimately, Hummel is extremely proud of this creation.” By designing the new kit, Hummel is taking part, in its own way, in the fight for women’s rights. The courage of Afghan women footballers is a powerful symbol of hope for all women worldwide, and illustrates their strength and determination in fighting against all obstacles.
